Change can be hard, even when it is for the better.
Learning a new sleep skill may bring some frustration, especially for babies and toddlers who are used to falling asleep in a certain way, and tears may arise. Babies cry because they are learning how to cope with the outside world. Children cry because they are learning how to manage emotions. Crying is part of life, not a sign of harm. Let’s demystify cry together.
Sleep, like walking or talking, is a learned skill, and learning any new skill often comes with resistance. Despite what the internet may promise or romanticise, there is no true “no-cry” sleep solution. That said, crying does not mean abandonment, and sleep training is never about leaving a baby alone, unheard, or unsupported. We never ignore a child’s needs!
At The Sleepy Treehouse, we support many different approaches and we always choose the one that aligns with your family’s values. If minimising tears is important to you, we can absolutely take a gentler and slower path. It may require more time and consistency, but the goal remains the same: safe, sound, healthy, happy sleep.
Most importantly, sleep training gives your child the opportunity to discover that they can do this on their own, while knowing they are supported. This is often the first step in building confidence, resilience and trust in themselves — skills that will serve them far beyond sleep.
And you will never do it alone. We will be right there with you, step by step, nap by nap, night by night.
