Frequently Asked Questions

Every sleep journey brings questions. Let's find our way together, one answer at a time.

What is sleep training, really?

Sleep training is the process of teaching a child to fall asleep and return to sleep independently.

At The Sleepy Treehouse, sleep training is not synonymous with “cry it out”. We follow a holistic, evidence-based approach that respects your parenting style and works in harmony with your child’s biological rhythms to design a personalized sleep plan that feels safe, realistic and sustainable to your family.

No one-size-fits-all solutions, ever.

We start by truly seeing you: your child’s age, temperament, routines, environment, developmental stage and your parenting values. The goal is simple: to help your child sleep independently, more restfully, and feel safe and supported, both day and night.

Since what age is it possible to sleep train a baby?

It is essential to support healthy sleep foundations from the very first day your baby comes home. While formal sleep training is not recommended before 4 months of age (adjusted), families can begin earlier by establishing a strong and nurturing sleep setup. This means tuning into what your baby needs at each stage, learning to recognise their unique sleep cues, creating gentle and reassuring routines, and offering a safe, comforting sleep environment.

For expectant parents and families with newborns, we focus on education, awareness, and prevention, helping you feel confident and informed from the very beginning.

Sleep is a skill, and like all skills, it grows with time, practice, and gentle guidance.

Will my baby cry?

Change can be hard, even when it is for the better.

Learning a new sleep skill may bring some frustration, especially for babies and toddlers who are used to falling asleep in a certain way, and tears may arise. Babies cry because they are learning how to cope with the outside world. Children cry because they are learning how to manage emotions. Crying is part of life, not a sign of harm. Let’s demystify cry together.

Sleep, like walking or talking, is a learned skill, and learning any new skill often comes with resistance. Despite what the internet may promise or romanticise, there is no true “no-cry” sleep solution. That said, crying does not mean abandonment, and sleep training is never about leaving a baby alone, unheard, or unsupported. We never ignore a child’s needs!

At The Sleepy Treehouse, we support many different approaches and we always choose the one that aligns with your family’s values. If minimising tears is important to you, we can absolutely take a gentler and slower path. It may require more time and consistency, but the goal remains the same: safe, sound, healthy, happy sleep.

Most importantly, sleep training gives your child the opportunity to discover that they can do this on their own, while knowing they are supported. This is often the first step in building confidence, resilience and trust in themselves — skills that will serve them far beyond sleep.

And you will never do it alone. We will be right there with you, step by step, nap by nap, night by night.

How long does it take to see results?

Every child is unique, and so is their sleep journey.

Progress depends on your child’s age, temperament, and developmental stage, but above all, on consistency. Consistency is what allows new sleep habits to settle, grow, and last. Consistency is key!

Many families begin to notice positive shifts within the first week. For most, around two weeks of steady, consistent practice is when meaningful changes and lasting progress are established for new, healthy habits.

Remember: we are not chasing perfection; we are building healthy sleep foundations that will grow stronger with your child, one milestone at a time.

Do you work with families who have multiples or more than one child needing sleep support?

Absolutely.

Families are rarely one-size-fits-all, and neither sleep is. Each child is supported according to their own needs, while we decide together whether to work with them at the same time or in stages, depending on what best serves your family.

For multiples, healthy sleep foundations can be built side by side, with the right structure and guidance.

At The Sleepy Treehouse, there is always space for every little dreamer.
